Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir at Pilgrim-St. Lukes Church is very proud to support and help lead the church congregation in song.  Roy Mathis serves as Choir Director and has been leading the choir at Pilgrim-St. Luke's for over 30 years.  Mr. Mathis aims to not only teach and help choir members learn the music through weekly rehearsals, but also help them get beyond the text and give heartfelt expression to the words they sing.  As Director, Mr. Mathis believes that through music he may contribute to the spiritual growth of church members and help them truly come to know God in their worship.

The choir is very pleased to have the talented Carmen Frisicaro as accompanist.  Mr. Frisicaro has been a member of Pilgrim-St. Luke's Church and the choir's accompanist, playing both organ and piano, for about 16 years.

The choir sings a variety of liturgical music and uses a variety of styles of music to help inspire and encourage the congregation to sing with the choir.  Especially, the choir seeks to sing with an understanding of the words, so to be able to share that understanding with the congregation as they worship.

All choir members volunteer their time and see their participation in the choir as a way to contribute and give back to the church community.  Members vary widely in backgrounds and experience, and all are motivated, passionate, and sincere in what they do as a member of the group.  Mostly, choir members have come to know their Director, Mr. Mathis, as a dedicated, inspirational leader, one who has given much of his life to filling the world with beautiful music.

New members are welcome!  Rehearsals are held on Wednesdays at 7:00 p.m. and membership is open.  For more information, contact Mr. Roy Mathis at 834-6705.

Please feel free to view the video below of the Hallelujah Chorus, in Handel's "Messiah," with Robert Shaw conducting the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Chorus—to help get you in the mood for singing, give you a chance to warm up, and further invite you to join us in the choir at Pilgrim-St. Luke's Church!  Enjoy!  Hallelujah Chorus, in Handel's "Messiah"
